Features Key features of the GeForce GTX 460  vs GT 640

memory bandwidth Rate at which data can be read from or stored in onboard memory

GeForce GTX 460
108.8 GB/s
GeForce GT 640
28.8 GB/s
While there are variants with 1 GB memory, ZOTAC has put 2 GB on the card, whether this makes much sense is something we will know at the end of the review.

pixel rate Number of pixels a graphics card can render to the screen every second

GeForce GTX 460
9.1 GPixel/s
GeForce GT 640
7.22 GPixel/s
Our benchmarks conclusively show that GT 640 is not a graphics card for gamers.
GeForce GT 640 | by techPowerUp! (Jul, 2012)

texture rate Speed at which a graphics card can perform texture mapping

GeForce GTX 460
36.4 GTexel/s
GeForce GT 640
28.9 GTexel/s
If you want to spend less, go for the HD 6670, which offers similar performance but costs only $65.
GeForce GT 640 | by techPowerUp! (Jul, 2012)

floating point performance How fast the gpu can crunch numbers

GeForce GTX 460
873.6 GFLOPS
GeForce GT 640
692.7 GFLOPS

shading units Subcomponents of the gpu, these run in parallel to enable fast pixel shading

Due to a bug in GPU-Z the shaders are reported incorrectly as 224, the correct number is 336.
GeForce GTX 460 | by techPowerUp! (Jul, 2010)

texture mapping units Built into each gpu, these resize and rotate bitmaps for texturing scenes
