it won't become 3D tho right? I think that's why he wanted the 120 Hz.
i don't drive but like to read about fast cars and it's not just the speed. you don't use a ferrari like a rocket car. it's a pleasure and fun to drive.
not if you buy the 3D model of the alienware like I did. no generic equivalent of that. and gaming is superb in 3D. btw I burned my 780m because of a clogged fan port, and bought an 880m instead. so far seems to perform the same, maybe a little smoother. neither one can play raw recorded 1080p 3D footage at real speed though, the video lags behind the sound. and i bought this for 2k in summer 2014 on ebay, which was a really good price then.
Whos the big retard.. Hmm.. Google and facebooks big underground server buildings spread ALL OVER THE WORLD guess what they are PACKED with... Dell hardware! Or wait? Maybe google and facebook isnt so big worldwide.... Or? /palm
big and bulky, there is hardly innovation in alienware
Ferraris are not shit you utter moron.
Link, I have a little nice surprise for you. The PLS panel that the Alienware 18 uses can actually be overclocked to over 100Hz. No kidding. I opened up the Nvidia Control panel and created a custom resolution and changed the pixel clock rate from 60zhz to 100Hz and selected "Test" and it runs solid with no artifcacts or lines visible onscreen! I can get to about 110Hz and then horizontal red lines begin to appear across the screen. I've had my Alienware 18 since November 2013 and LOVE IT. The fact that the screen can be overclocked to a higher refresh rate is just icing on the cake.
This has the be the most poorly interpreted response ever made. Funny the guy who was raging about Alienware having no marketing and being mad at the price because of the lack of marketing, is now saying "marketing just turn your mind to shit". What i get from you is that your angry and uneducated. You lust for nice things but cant afford them. You cry/rage/downplay them publicly so that you hopefully deter others from buying such things because your envious and jealous? Your negativity and anger is very unfortunate. I am sorry for you.
Oh and next time your in Ethiopia let me know how it is charging your computer and using the internet.
Clearly your mad, and know nothing. Dell is ALL over the word, Dell handles Alienwares customer support. Pay double? you will pay ROUGHLY 300 dollars more for a Alienware laptop that has the top of the line specs then other brands with the same specs. And what do you get? #1 in build quality #1 in performance and cooling #1 in customer support. Please, educate yourself before looking like a irrational angry little boy.
Can't believe i'm living in that shit world, marketing just turn your mind to shit. Ferrari / Rolex are shit. A ferrari isn't faster than a car 10 times cheaper, like a rolex doesn't give you a time more "accurate". Stupid fool. And guess what, Rolex isn't better than another watches, it's just an item.
Retarded comment. Why people should pay the double for 5% perf ? Cause of marketing ? Oh wait, we're talking about something that didn't even exist ! And what about the Customer service : MSI and Asus are much bigger than Alienware and present in all countries. ALL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD FFS. Try to fix your damn fucking alienware in Ethiopia, Bolivia or idk where ! Alienware is shit optimisation, try to hide stupid software issues but using all the best hardware comp without any optimisation.
I bought an Alienware 18 with two 780m's, and man oh, man does it kick ass. I bought a refurbished one for $1000 cheaper, and changed the hdd to an ssd and everything works great. It obviously doesn't and will never compare to my desktop, but for on-the-go it's impeccable. Wish the 18 had 120hz display though :\ but you can't have everything right? even if alienware products are overpriced, their performance is still on par with everything else, and I don't see any other laptop companies put two GPU's in one laptop. I think Lenovo was the only one, but it didn't have the best of gpus. Plus, alienware aesthetics are always more pleasing to stare at rather than most other eyesore laptops.
I just brought a new alienware laptop with the 880gtx 120hz display 32 gb ram 256 ssd and 1 tb hdd and a i7 4910mq cpu . It an unreal laptop it replaced my asus g75vw laptop. I like the design and all the lights it look's awesome but this will never keep up to a my desktop .That is running sli and 6 core cpu I was just reading some of the comment's there must be some retards in this world comparing a desktop pc to a laptop
Because the screens aren't retina displays and the mobo bus will need to change. It's an OK compromise not as bad as you think it is. The new alienware 17 has 3 cm below the bottom, extracts heat sideways and dissipates at the back and that really helps to the greatest extent possible. GPU run 24/7 continuously is a dumb idea but you are allowed to do that and it virtually does that if you're on high performance and perpetually gaming.. Power consumption has to be kept minimal at all times so. Also CPU cooling separately? Makes no sense. that volume form factor 1 cooling works for all and that works well in the said alienware I spoke about earlier. 512bit mobile gpu's won't necessarily eat through games at 4k /8k res's there are other factors at play. The 880M is almost 1000mhz so that's done and works fine on again the same alienware. You can overclock the 780m also and keep it stable. Conclusion, what you've said is done and also partially not a good idea for powerconsumption and that's simply not true about 512 bit gpu.. GTX200 series is 512 bit for example, yet 48xx series is 256 bit. guess which performs better with 4k res's. 512bit will make a difference if you wanted to move over 2 gigs of video memory each frame, and said game must have a really good reason/really bad programming to move that much data each frame across
@Mitch: hahaha yes. @spiz: Good analogy :) +1 @Jett: Man you're just too young to understand this, when I was in University I'd have probably gave replies like what you've given but now? The convenience of portability, beauty of its design and fancy lights and premium support is worth the price(Completely free repairs for virtually whatever you may do to damage your alienware, I got my entire alienware m17 keyboard replaced when my nephew broke it & for no cost and the support engineers came over the next day and got it done and their SLA covers all accidental damage). This is noteworthy: I own a few high performance desktops (think 64 gigs of high speed RAM, i7 enthusiast K edition cpu's with dual 780 ti's and desktop with crossfire tri oc r9 290x's but I still have my alienware laptop that I take whenever I have onsite work) And before you tell me that an alienware m17 is too heavy for on site work, depending on the situation I have a gaming ultra book also. I work on projects in locations where there are power outages for about 30 minute intervals because of the scale of projects going on there, and in this case having an alienware is very nice. I get good performance on battery as well and there's mission critical shit running on it. Also noteworthy is alienware notebooks have the best heat dissipation with performance right now, I sometimes need to work in places where I need portability and temperatures exceed 40 degrees celcius and I need that kind of processing to fix issues in said places and my new m17 handles the temp like a boss and runs smoothly (dusty and hot places). Medium to big scale engineering projects with heavy software dependence needs this sort of shit sometimes. This notebooks a beast in terms of performance, handling the heat, premium support and built like a rock(The on site conditions I have to expose it to, not many laptops/desktops would last over 6 months. Anyway I think I shall stop shamelessly bragging now. =] In a nutshell, yes perhaps the price doesn't justify YOU buying an Alienware notebook, but for those that actually buy it they probably had a very good reason to get one and absolutely need it and some just get it for the brand/design and that's their own personal joy. No need to be so harsh and call it a shit laptop. It's a good laptop it's just that its not so useful in context of your requirements right now at this point in your life and besides this link was comparing two notebook gpu's you had absolutely no reason to come and troll this page. If you were very happy with said desktop why even bother coming and posting on a page that CLEARLY talked about MOBILE gpus' yes? I typed a lot, let's end the discussion here.
Might not be a Ferrari, but it'll dust a Ferrari at any given moment. I think that's gonna be really ineresting to see.
Dude of course he can, and does! Its cheaper and better than "shit Alienware". He brings it everywhere to flaunt, and let everyone know he is "smarter" and better then Alienware because his 45 pound desktop tower is cheaper and more powerful then a 9 pound laptop.
I'm curios, is it shit because you cant afford it? Because it's a "dell"? Or is it shit because they have the best design for cooling, sturdiest build quality you can get on the market, the gimmicky but amazingly attractive AlienFX lighting system, the best hardware you can buy on the market in a laptop, the outstanding customer support from... wait for it... their partnership with dell (and it is just that, a partnership dell bought Alienware whom is an independent section of dell and it benefits them by being significantly cheaper and A++ support) and by A++ i mean if you have any issue with hardware at all (granted your still under warranty) Alienware will send a guy to your house withing the next 2 days to replace the parts for free. Pretty sure any other "Gaming Laptop" company's you will fight for hours on the phone (if at all you get someone on the line) and then you get to mail your few hundred dollar cheaper rig away for a few days/weeks/month. You know what maybe your right... Alienware is shit! I will return mine now. Thanks for helping me come to this conclusion.
I love these response's "i build a 60 pound desktop that is better then your laptop for cheaper HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE" ...... that's like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda with 1000hp sure the honda is faster but guess what.... its not a ferrari.
Haters gonna hate. Bc they bought a asus/msi/sager/clevo that has the "same hardware" comfortably tucked into the most flimsy plastic shell money can buy. Not the mention the eye-soars you get just looking at those ugly machines. Maybe one day when you have a big boy job you can afford top of the line build quality and performance of an alienware.
It is really cool, overpriced only if you don't want to pay for the world renowned brand and awesome design, and comes with some of the most beastly hardware.
I built a desktop which is far better than any alienware as well, but I also got an alienware laptop, I take you can't carry the computer you built on your daily commute.
Not too poor. Just making smart decision. Made my own computer that's better than any Alienware.
your opinion, so he paid an extra 300 for cool lights and a brand, it makes him feel proud, dont tell him how to feel about what kind of purchases hes made.
