4 years old gtx 680 still using so that depends on your system if you go budget system next year you need to upgrade but if you buy best you are safe for at least 3 years at least my system is

Actually the performance between a 970 and 980 are super close once you overclock the 970 you can get it to the same performance as a stock 980. But once you overclock a 980 yeah you're looking at maybe 5-10fps over a 970. IDK wtf you're talking about. And if you're saying the difference in games is a 5fps difference that's completely false too. It even says above fps for Bioshock Infinite GTX 970 :107.5fps GTX 680 64.5 fps Crysis 3 GTX 970 50.6 GTX 680 36.8. How is that a 5 fps difference, that's about a %50 performance difference.
although in many other benchmarks and gametests it runs significantly slower unfortunately
evga gtx680 with 4gb <3 love that little trooper, it will run on for a while in my rig too
The difference will be on your electricity bill.
That's my thinking as well. I am actually adding a second gtx 680 directcu ii TOP to my setup, because for the 140 bucks, I can't get more performance buying something new. I'd have to sell my gtx 680, and then spend 300 dollars more to justify the whole thing, so screw it.
I have a 680; these benches dont seem worth it. For others with a 680 My suggestion is: Wait for GTX 1XXX series, or get a 980/980ti the 970 is just barely faster in real world (5fps) where the 980 will almost double it, yes the 980 is that much better then then 970. Windows 10 will make your 680 last another year minimum.
I got a GTX 680 direct cu ii oc recently , still on a level between 960 and 970 but much cheaper.
Its confirmed to be the GeForce 1000 series.

The GTX680 blows away the GTX970 in 3DMark06 (DirectX 9.0). But GTX970 supports DirectX 12.0-- the GTX680 doesn't.

OK. Shoulda upgraded to GTX 980 for example, but you dont need to.

I'm right there with you. Spend the money saved on all the good games coming out in the coming months. I have a 680 and with a little graphics tweaking you can get games looking great and running at 60fps. Go on nvidia's website and check out their tweaking guides for a any given game.
Nope. Yearly upgrade is an urban myth. 2.5/3 years is the standard duration to upgrade for an average user.

I bet that then next generation will be called "Geforce GTX ONE" just like HTC One, Xbox One, and skydrive renamed to OneDrive.
That is about the only way to get your money's worth out of the prices they ask for these dam things! I am glad to see Nvidia lowering prices on their high end products, But it should still be much lower. I mean this is hardware most people only use for a year or two. Even paying $200 for something you only use for that long is a rip off! Your 680 is still a very strong card! But then I am sure you already know that! I would rather have a 680 than my R9 270.
