I bought the EVGA 960 SSC due to it runs cooler and uses less power than the AMD. The rig I built was going to be used in my truck. My HP AMD laptop ran really hot and was due for an upgrade. Now I have decided and built a rig that would fit in my truck easier (I7 6700K with 1060 in a Silverstone case). I may upgrade my 960 rig with something else. Haven't yet decided. But I am thinking about the 1070 since they are coming available.
some times the 960 is better and some times the r9 285 is better i would go for the 960 because of the lower price for the performence
... No dude the 7970 is slightly slower than the R9 280X, do you know what else is slightly slower than the the R9 280X?? A GTX 960. The GTX 960 at stock speeds is as fast as the HD 7970. My GTX 960 runs with 4GBs of GDDR5 and with a core clock of 1505 MHz. I'd return my 960 if it wasn't faster than the top tier card from 2 years ago (Also my 960 is also faster than the GTX 680 which was faster than the 7970 so I don't see why the 7970 is relevant after all these years)
It wasn't. I got rid of my Bottleneck and some reason I get like 60-70 FPS on most maps and like 52 FPS average while flying around the hugest maps. Specs: Intel Core i5-6500 @3.5 GHz G. Skill Ripjaws V 8GB DDR4-2400MHz Ram EVGA GeForce GTX 960 FTW 4GB @1505 MHz
No no. But yeah possibly better FPS on the 285, but my 960 had the edge. And OC power is always a factor.
And it is interesting whether Mantle was used during test.
Nvidia wins again. No way AMD can win with its non-X cards xD
I have a R9 285 X with a 3.6Ghz I3 socket 1150 16GB of RAM, and the GPU cost £108.00 delivered, who care if it runs a bit hot? Sniper 3 average FPS on maximum 1080p with everything maxed is 94.3 with a maximum FPS of 141.0 on my 42" plasma screen (600Hrz refresh rate HDMI) so the card works its nuts off, and don't believe the hype, its not too hot or too loud. R9 285 x is bang for buck a monster card, please buy a good PSU! What do the other 2GB of RAM do in the NVIDIA card then? Sod all that's what. The R9 285 X has higher floating point, more shader units and more texture units, this equates to more quality in the frames displayed if not a higher rate. The NVIDIA is a cracking card all he same, and I would not say no if I was given one - the games on Windows 10 and the new direct X will decide the future, current games often cannot use more than 3GB of RAM so keep that in mind also.

No-one's talking about True Audio here... That's kind of the reason the R9 285 exists. As far as frame-rates go: the 960 can be about 5% more expensive before the 285 makes more sense if dollars per FPS are important. If TrueAudio is your thing than go R9 285 all the way; it still has to pick up steam though. And BTW 4 gigs on cards like these make no sense whatsoever.
The 285 will play more games at 1080p at higher frame rates. Even the 970 struggles with GTA V at 1080p on highest settings, let alone the 960.
whats the best for 1080p gaming from these cards ? amd has powerhouse , bandwith 256bit memory , more flops more processors , nvidia has more gpixels and highter clocks so what's better for smooth 1080p gaming?

No they cost around $195 in the US. You're talking about 4GB 960 if you think a 960 costs $250.
