Today, we're reviewing the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SuperClocked ACX, a non-reference design, factory-overclocked GTX 970 graphics card, which comes with a custom-design PCB, and the company's signature ACX cooler, which features an aluminium stack heatsink that uses a trio of copper heat pipes, to draw heat directly from the GPU die, and dissipate it under the airflow of two 80 mm fans.

wow this post is a year old and to prove my point it still is a better card today most pc gamers that use nvidia use a gtx 1060 or 1050 ti for budget builds.this card that i am still using today still has no problems 1080p/60fps.also nvidia still to this day has no async compute and more and more games are being made for dx12 even today. way to validate my post and decision i made to buy this card i will still get 3-4 more years out of it.

nope its meant to slow down the card once it goes over 3.5g of vram.
the r9 380x is right where it should be between the r9 290 and the r9 380.the r9 290 destroys the gtx 970.my only issue is the rx 480 has come out just after i bought the r9 380x and since the rx 480 is about where the r9 290 is there is no point for me to upgeade.the r9 380x came out last november its not even a year old yet. i guess ill wait a few years before my next up grade im more interested in fx zen right now.the r9 380x should still be good for 2-3 more years for 1080p/60.ill just have to adjust settings to hit 60fps.

The 970 vram is segmented to 3.5 and 0.5 GB the slower 0.5GB is intelligently accessed by the driver for things that require less speed.
the 970 does have 4096 gb of vram but 0.5 is just slower

I'd say for someone who's never owned the 2, In My OPINION Based On My Data, And w/Pretty Large $$ Differences Of Late factoring that Price to Performance (P2P) first off, 2nd, DX12 Extremely Benefits More In AMD GPU / APU's with this API and PEOPLE MUST FACTOR "HOW LONG" They Plan On Using The Card For, Nothings Future Proof, But again, OVERCLOCKING to Get FREE PERFORMANCE on these Cards are a no Brain-er (I recommend Learning about Reading Info On GPU, Including your vBIOS, BIOS'S & INCLUDING "FLASHING UR BIOS", BUT MAINLY CHECKING UR (RAM MODULES) vRAM GDDR5 ICs / MODULES & WHAT THEIR "TRUE" or "NATIVE" Frequency Runs At! Comes natural with GDDR ram and its voltage requirements. AMDs GPUs are also made for compute performance. AMD also mandates at vary finite voltage regulation for its memory modules. You can see this in the choices taken in VRM design and its backed up by benchmarks its how AMD cards have less of a minimum FPS drop in games. The only real advantage Nvidia has had is in its market programming domination. Most games have never taken advantage of AMDs pathways through the GPU or the ability to control more of the GPU. That is now changing with DX12 and other various APIs. The care and detail that is seen in how AMD designs their GPUs is staggering. Nvidia could careless about peoples personal experience, they are in it for the money.
considering its based on the R9 200 architecture... additionally for the performance you get out of the 380X at its price point the 970 is over priced... also should try running DX12 content on them Nvidia's offerings are dismal at best. With DX12 you really start seeing the raw compute performance of AMD's GPUs shine. This is coming from a 970 owner BTW...
both Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 have special Nvidia settings (Hairworks on Witcher, Gameworks on FO4), so that makes sense. AMD beats the shit out of Nvidia cards in Battlefront, which also makes sense considering AMD's history with DICE. They're both pretty even cards.

Ehh hopefully it will be even with the 970 even if it is a little slower The price is supposed to be way lower about 100$ lower. So factor that in and boom it's a great card for the price. I hope AMD starts pumping out new cards so Nvidia is forced to lower their prices! One can dream... I might get this for my living room PC and a 980ti for my sim rig I'm going to build soon.. We shall see though. Kinda sucks the 970 got 3.5gb of fast memory and .5 slower or I would have chose that, but they want you to buy the 980 lol. oh well
Considering the R9 390 is bested by the 970 in several games despite having superior specs (Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 are two recent examples), I expect the 380X will fare even worse in practice. AMD is in the dumps right now.

Are you retarded? This "new GEN 3xx" card is meant to directly compete with the 9xx series. AMD was behind until they announced the 300 series. The 200 series was meant to compete with the 700 series.
They haven't given up on their high TDPs yet, I see...alright, someone wake me up when AMD can make something at a lower wattage than a comparable Nvidia.
I'm a GTX970 owner and it shouldn't matter what a card is compared to, people wanna see what performence each card has compared to something they know. Who cares which is faster or not, it doesn't mean anything! Right now I'd go nvidea purely based on better support, lower power, better GAME benchmarks, that's all I care about to be fair. If I was 4k gaming then I'd go r9-295. Everybody has different requirements. I like to buy games when they come out and have them stable, most of the time I didn't get that from my AMD card so i changed to nvidea and problem solved. Also lets wait til the card is out and we see benchmarks and pricing, lol this fanboyism is crazy!! BOTH COMPANIES ARE TAKING YOUR MONEY!! you dont need to be loyal to nvidea or AMD
