I know, it's an old topic, but I'm surprised no one has said it... The GT 1030 is quite often the <b>only</b> choice for SFF designs such as Dell OptiPlex. But it really only makes sense if you have limited space and power in your case, and you have an older CPU that won't be bottlenecked too much by this slow GPU. This is the 1030's niche. I have a Dell OptiPlex 3020 SFF with a Core i5-4590 and I needed a low power (no power connector) GPU that was both single-slot AND low Profile. The PNY GT1030 (2GB GDDR5) met these requirements, and for about $90 (on sale at Best Buy) I improved the system's gaming performance by quite a bit over the integrated HD 4600 graphics. It's not good for newer games, but it will run older stuff and emulators like a champ, on the cheap. It only really makes sense in this situation - upgrading a refurbished SFF PC to do light (and/or retro) gaming. It won't even do NVENC, as that portion of the chip was disabled on the GT 1030. But who cares? Here's a plus... they can overclock pretty well; I've overclocked mine to ~1750MHz core/3300MHz (6600 effective?) memory without much of an issue and it yielded about a 10-15% boost... no 1050, but better than an RX 550 stock probably. (TL;DR): So basically the GT 1030 makes sense for a SFF refurb light gaming box, but for a real gaming build in a bigger case, totally not worth it; I agree, you can do so much better for a little more money.
In the UK, on cclonline the 1030 is priced at £64.69 and up. The cheapest 550 I can find is £84.99 but hasn't been in stock for months. The next one up that is available is "£91.99... So yeah, the 1030 is nearly £30 cheaper.
The 1030's advantage is native Linux support. ATi's cards have never been able to match the proper monitor PWM in Linux and this dates back all the way to the Rage series. If you are a Linux gamer, Nvidia is always the better choice. But for Windows gaming, the 550 is better. I've been gaming on ATi cards since 1998 and every time I upgrade, I carefully look at Nvidia and give them a chance and every time their cards just can't compare for the price. I had a Geforce 2 which was garbage compared to the Rage series and I had a 9800 GT someone gave me that wasn't that bad, but it still couldn't hold a candle to the HD4770 at the time. Currently the 550 is only $12 more on Amazon and another $10 to double the RAM to 4GB. No context (except for Linux gamers)!
Yep agreed. What piss me off now is that i bought my card 2 months ago for 1.3k now its 1.1k Dammit!!!
Lol just bought gt 1030 msi low profile oc version for php 3720 =74 usd not that bad even it is much slower than 750 ti that can be bought now for php 3000-3500 that is already used..i bought it because it has warranty ,lower tdp, small form, i cant trust those guys who sell 2nd hand you''ll never know if it has a problem or whats over better to buy from a trusted store with warranty
dont worry about pricing guys. in the second quarter of 2018, Graphics card companies will be releasing a new hardware for miners specifically. so, the prices for GC will go down soon.
In here my country GT 1030 İS 90 dollars meanwhile RX 550 is 130 dollars. the whole pricing for all GCs are f.cked up thanks to miners
in what world is the 1030 cheaper? and besides, why even get these GPUs, they're both not worth it
Same with my country too :D
Here where i stay the rx is actually cheaper than the the 1030 but then again my countries messed up and grading from a 9800 gt to the rx was like jumping from an fiat to a jet.
in some games the rx 550 is better then the gt 1030, but the gt 1030 is cheaper.
the rx 550 is better
in that case, RX 550 is better i think
:( I want to know wich one is better for mining
