When looking at price/performance only, AMD's R9 285 should be on your shopping list as it offers much better performance at an excellent price of $170, a price that could be lower if you are in the market for used cards.

Reviews Word on the street for the GeForce GTX 950

On NVIDIA cards with Boost, the values discussed is the highest observed boost clock after overclocking.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

2 GB is the standard memory amount, and unlike with the GTX 960, we don't expect NVIDIA to introduce 4 GB variants.
by techPowerUp!
This is a tiny chip, and compared to the R7 370, it has a narrower 128-bit memory bus for just four memory chips on the card.
by techPowerUp!
A secondary heatsink cools the memory chips.
by techPowerUp!

NVIDIA's MSRP is $160 and EVGA is asking another $10 for their SSC variant, which brings the price close to the GTX 960 for $190, and it offers better performance.
by techPowerUp!
Still, the price is dangerously close to the GTX 960 that can be had for $190 and offers better performance.
by techPowerUp!
This lets the card beat the R7 370 conclusively with a 20% performance gap.

Memory Type

The GDDR5 memory chips are made by Samsung and carry the model number K4G41325FC-HC28.
by techPowerUp!
The core is clocked at 1024 MHz, with a GPU Boost frequency of 1188 MHz, and the memory ticks at 6.60 GHz (GDDR5-effective), which gives you 105.6 GB/s memory bandwidth.

Hi Jason! I wrote you thru email but not sure if you received it. I wanted to ask if you would take a look at my 1st build (gaming). I am hoping for your expertise to see if my build can be enhanced or if there are any ways I can bring the cost down. I understand your busy & understand if you cannot. Here is the link to my setup via pcpartpicker. Many thanks for your time in reviewing this post. Ian
Ok cool, thanks for getting back to me, i dont get on this DISQUS site much, but i have been lately. I live in UTAH, USA. Ya Im looking for a solid R9 380 for a good deal on a Client Build im working on putting together here soon. So i was curious if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks again Reponse!
Where do you live? I can find the R9 380 for less expansive in my country but in others country you can find R9 280x easier so you can find a lot of things for the budget.
@ reponse - hey where can you find an r9 380 at around that price or better like you posed?! Im looking to buy a cheaper gpu for a client build that is cheap but great for 1080p gaming. Let me know please or email me at the link to the R9-280, again i'd appreciate it a lot!
R9 380 can be found for less and it's way better.
