This process meant that the monitor was drawing a frame whether it was ready or not, which led to tearing, stutter, and other nasty effects if the GPU couldn't keep up.
While “AMD FreeSync” is a stack of technologies, VESA DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync should be all that is required on the monitor side.

Oh, and let’s not forget that many implementations of Gen9 graphics on Skylake will take advantage of DDR4 for primary system memory rather than DDR3.
A total product architecture is a combination of one or more slices with additional front end logic for command submission, fixed function hardware for 3D and media pipelines as well as a dedicated graphics technology interface (GTI) for accessing the rest of the components on the SoC.
Specifically, Intel is looking at scenarios where logic blocks using different fabrication methods are laid out in their own layers and stacked, rather than implemented on a single layer of a single die (think memory, digital logic, and analog communications on a single chip).
While 14nm is great for density, lower voltage and lower power, other features on die are often produced at a looser resolution in order to ensure compatibility but it also offers a great research platform for testing new on-die features to be scaled down at a later date.
Global illumination is essentially the difference between the very “hard” light that we usually associate with computer games, and the “soft” light of reality, or high-quality pre-rendered computer graphics (architectural stuff, CG animated movies, etc).
Nvidia, with a rather gifted bit of marketing, has used the new Maxwell-based GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards… to prove that we did indeed land some astronauts on the Moon.
