NVIDIA Launches GTX 960M/950M and GeForce 940M/930M/920M

Considering the GTX 965M has 1024 CUDA cores many felt it would use GM206 as well, but that didn’t happen; in a similar fashion, those expecting (hoping) GTX 960M and 950M would use a derivative of GM206 are also going to be disappointed and it continues to use the GM107 chip.
Interestingly, the clocks and core configurations mean that potentially the GTX 950M is actually a bit slower than GTX 850M (640 cores at 936MHz + Boost compared to 914MHz + Boost), but NVIDIA doesn't disclose the full range of base clocks and Boost clocks so the 950M will hit higher clocks on average compared to 850M.
However, the stability of the boards for overclocking the processor above 4.2 GHz might not fare so well.
Overclocking above 4.2 GHz requires more than 4 phases in the power system, due to extensive voltage loads.

NVIDIA’s GeForce 800M Lineup for Laptops and Battery Boost

This is partly being done in order to make the GTX 850M look better (i.e. marketing), but it’s also being done as a way to segment software feature sets – as we’ll see in a moment, the mainstream 800M GPUs do not support GameStream or ShadowPlay.
The good news is that you should have plenty of choices in the coming months, and not only are we seeing faster GPUs but many laptops are starting to come out with high quality 3K and 4K displays.
So let’s talk about the GPUs themselves, NVIDIA’s first tier chips would be MXM design which means they would be interchangeable, upgradable and even offer SLI support on some notebook designs.
Next up, we have the entry level models which will feature the onboard design which mean that these GPUs will be permanently soldered to the mainboard hence no upgrading can be possible.
