We're not sure exactly how this is done, but it's essentially a GPU version of the Turbo Boost and Turbo Core technologies we've seen from Intel and AMD CPUs for some time.

NVIDIA Launches GTX 960M/950M and GeForce 940M/930M/920M

Considering the GTX 965M has 1024 CUDA cores many felt it would use GM206 as well, but that didn’t happen; in a similar fashion, those expecting (hoping) GTX 960M and 950M would use a derivative of GM206 are also going to be disappointed and it continues to use the GM107 chip.
Interestingly, the clocks and core configurations mean that potentially the GTX 950M is actually a bit slower than GTX 850M (640 cores at 936MHz + Boost compared to 914MHz + Boost), but NVIDIA doesn't disclose the full range of base clocks and Boost clocks so the 950M will hit higher clocks on average compared to 850M.
I am continually curious about the market for these types of high-end "mobile" GPUs with the limited market that the Android console market currently addresses.
The GPU also can run in a multi-domain virtualization mode that would allow multiple operating systems to run in parallel on a single platform.

Of course, those are going to be games that tend to be CPU limited anyway (e.g. Skyrim and StarCraft II, which we're no longer running for precisely that reason).
If you're already running a high-end gaming notebook, this is also a tough sell as 30-50% is certainly an improvement, but most gamers would be willing to drop a few settings in order to achieve high frame rates on anything from GTX 680M to GTX 880M.
