I wonder what this means for the Tesla line, and whether we will see a variant of Maxwell with a large boost in 64-bit performance, or if that line will be in an awkward place until Pascal.
The memory, but not the cache, is capable of ECC (error-correction) for enterprises who do not want a stray photon to mess up their computation.
Although not inexpensive, it will allow customers to get some extra mileage out of their laptop, especially with the major improvements in performance we have seen with the Maxwell 2 based GTX 980M and GTX 970M.
This will let owners of older laptops, who are not interested in a complete upgrade, obtain the power of the new Maxwell 2 based GPUs from NVIDIA in their laptop.
The GeForce GTX 970 results are even more surprising since the card would be available at $399 US and from the looks of it, it will be able to offer GeForce GTX Titan like performance while being around 5% faster than the Radeon R9 290 however can’t say if these are the reference clock speeds or overclocked.
Just comparing, a GeForce GTX 980M to the GeForce GTX 880M shows a good 35% performance increase which shows how much efficient Maxwell is against its actual Kepler based predecessor (GM204 vs GK104).
While we already did a drop, scratch and water test to see if the smartphone could sustain a few hits here and there; iFixit’s One M8 teardown would show you what to expect realistically when you have a broken or damaged HTC One M8.
IFixit also notes that the repair work is made harder by the use of copious amounts of tape, adhesive, and copper shielding.
