GPU overclocking potential is similar to previous Hawaii cards, with memory overclocking slightly better, but it's held back by the BIOS, not by the actual frequency that the chips could run.

If you are a 1080p gamer, my recommendation would be a GTX 970 as it offers similar performance, but runs much cooler and quieter thanks to its reduced power draw.

Since all R9 300 Series cards are rebrands of existing R9 200 Series products, we don't expect any significant power consumption improvements with the R9 390X; these will hopefully come with the Fiji GPU on the Radeon Fury.

Dude, the 390 completely wipes the floor with the 970. The 960 is also outclassed by the 380x AND 380. Futhermore, the 950ti is also completely recked by the 370 and 360x. They've been outdone by AMD after the release of the 3XX line-up of cards. The only edge Nvidia still has is at the high-end. The 980 is admittedly better than the 390x in terms of raw performance but it is also more expensive, making both cards completely even in price/performance. The 980ti certainly outclasses the Fury X, but the air cooled Fury comes in at a about $100 less on average and is not that far behind the 980ti in terms of raw performance, even besting the Nvidia card at higher resolutions in certain shader heavy games like Shadow of Morder and Ryse. The Titan X is still in a league of its own though and that's not about to change any time soon. The only answer AMD has to the Titan X is the dual-gpu monster of a card, the R9 295x2. But for the most part, AMD has blown Nvidia out of the water at the sub $450 price range while Nvidia completely dominates at higher end single GPU cards. Not to mention their thermal/noise/power usage profile is a complete win compared to the AMD cards. So, ultimately Nvidia is not better than AMD. I think they each have their strengths and weaknesses and both card companies put out cards for specific sorts of gamers and you really just ought to get what suits your gaming needs the best. Otherwise, just get and AMD card cause they're better :^)... lol just kidding.
