The Tonga GPU was always meant to be highly efficient and AMD has toned down its TDP to sub-150W so we can say a TDP of 150W is what’s to expect from the consumer Radeon R9 285 variant which goes on sale this month.

It’s widely speculated that this is the cooler for the R9 390X.

In The News From around the web

The increase in games would come from the crappy Crossfire support in some games, but with games with great multi-GPU support, the HD 7970s in CF would still be a great rig.
My question should I upgrade my gpu to the r9 380 x 8 gig of RAM or is there a better option also will my cpu hinder performance.
It’s widely speculated that this is the cooler for the R9 390X.
In case you’ve missed it Videocardz.com put out a story yesterday claiming that AMD may have cancelled the R9 285X.
As for the power consumption, the FirePro W7100 has a wattage of 150W however being a Firepro variant, AMD had to tone down the clock speeds.
Tonga which is a performance oriented offering for the consumer market doesn’t has to face those restrictions hence AMD has the Tonga Pro chip consuming a total wattage of 190W which is slightly lower than the Tahiti and a good 40W above what AMD advertises for the W7100 but it has higher clock speeds and support for better PCB designs from custom AIC board makers.
